Dr Cedric Weber, Kings College London and Andrea Greco, PhD student in the Theory and Simulation of Materials CDT at Imperial College London visited the ASESMA Summer School this January at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), Johannesburg, South Africa. A summer school which was first introduced in 2008 in Cape Town.

Dr Weber was invited to give a set of lectures on the Extensions of DFT and Andrea provided tutorials throughout the two week long school, sharing knowledge with materials scientists in Africa.

The APS Physics writes more on the event - Mentoring a Generation of Materials Scientists in Africa, on the supporters of the school, success stories and future plans.
