Duties and Responsibilities

Applications are invited for a Research Associate to work with Professor Dorothy Duffy at the London Centre for Nanotechnology, University College London. The successful candidate will join a consortium of groups whose objective is to develop new ways to control crystallisation by combining cutting-edge experiment and modelling to understand the mechanisms that determine how inorganic crystals nucleate and grow. The postholder will develop and apply methods for modelling the effects of additives on the growth of crystals from solution, with aim of developing a new framework for predicting the effects of additives on crystal growth and properties.The modelling studies will be pursued in tandem with complementary experimental work performed by researchers at the Universities of Warwick and Leeds.

The post is funded by EPSRC. It is available for a period of 24 months initially, and the appointment will start on 1 March 2018 or soon thereafter.

Key Requirements

The successful candidate will have a PhD degree in an area of computational physics, chemistry, materials science or a closely related discipline. Highly motivated individuals who have a strong background in computer code development for long time scale methods are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants must be able to demonstrate extensive experience with molecular dynamics codes and have proven programming and high performance computing experience. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential and experience of Monte Carlo modelling is desirable.
