Quantum Simulation Across Different Paradigms
Condensed matter physicists have a range of techniques to calculate the properties of physical systems. Many of the analytical and numerical and approaches are rather mature and the boundaries between communities using them can be as strong as those between different disciplines. Various developments are eroding these boundaries. I will outline a few aspects in which my group is involved: the attempt to incorporate electronic fluctuation-induced effects into density functional theory calculations; and the translation of tensor network methods for classical simulation of quantum systems (and for classical machine learning) to run on near-term quantum computers.
