Research Summary:

Dr Venables' research has several strands straddling the interfaces between physics, materials science and graduate teaching, and is currently concentrating on crystal growth modeling. The main interest is in surface processes, and uses rate and rate-diffusion equations as tools for studying epitaxial growth. Recent work has concentrated on time-dependent effects, visualized by 2D simulations and movies, executed using MatLab. His graduate textbook: Introduction to Surface and Thin Film Processes, published by Cambridge University Press in 2000, is supplemented by material on the web at http://venables.asu.edu/index.html, where you can also find links to the surface community and his teaching materials.
