BP CHIEF SCIENTIST VISITS THOMAS YOUNG CENTRE

A delegation from BP, including Professor Ellen Williams, Chief Scientist, Peter Duff, Senior Science & Technology Manager and Nick Hazel, Technical Specialist, made an official visit to UCL and the Thomas Young Centre on 24 May 2011.

Their visit included meeting with the Thomas Young Centre senior management team and UCL senior figures, followed by a tour of the London Centre for Nanotechnology. The aim of the visit was to showcase the TYC's modelling capabilities and to establish possible common areas of research interest.

Following the visit to UCL, Professor Williams gave an excellent seminar to a packed audience entitled "Making energy sustainable - Scientific challenges in determining the pathways to the future" in which the possibilities and challenges of developing a low carbon energy future were discussed and BP's part in these developments were presented.

Professor Angelos Michaelides commented "The TYC were very pleased to welcome our colleagues from BP and thank them for their time. We hope that the visit was useful to them and that this leads to a fruitful collaboration in the future."
