THOMAS YOUNG CENTRE:
THE LONDON CENTRE FOR THEORY AND SIMULATION OF MATERIALS
The Hermes Summer School 2012 will bring together up to 60 of the world's highest calibre graduate research students in a multidisciplinary forum where they can showcase their research to a diverse group of people through the opening poster session, widen their knowledge of materials research, build networks, and take away some valuable skills in communication. The event is based on a series of master classes on a range of simulation techniques, delivered by academics of international repute. After the master classes, participants will focus on a group competition based upon presenting one of the techniques through the medium of video. The videos will be at a level suitable for the general public and participants will be aided in the production process by media professionals.
This event takes place during the 2012 London Olympic Games (27 July - 30 July 2012) at Cumberland Lodge, a grand house in Windsor Great Park, close to London. Historically this house has been the residence of Dukes and Duchess, and even Princess Helena, daughter of Queen Victoria.
This will be a prime opportunity for students from the international science community to get a taster of the cross-disciplinary research that is becoming ever more important, and also to get a kick start in developing vital communication skills in a unique and inspirational setting.
This event is designed, led and organised by a team of students from Imperial College London's Centre for Doctoral Training in the Theory and Simulation of Materials, King's College London, and University College London, all of whom are members of the Thomas Young Centre.
