TRAVEL-BY TRAIN

Rail is usually the fastest way of travelling within the UK or to nearby continental Europe. The UK railway system is privately run, and the pricing of tickets is complex. Even people who live in the UK find it mysterious. Except for rather short journeys, it is generally cheaper (sometimes much cheaper) to buy your ticket(s) online in advance. You can then collect the ticket(s) from a machine at your departure station. Many people use the TrainLine for online booking.

* London King's Cross - Cambridge: 50 min
