THOMAS YOUNG CENTRE:
THE LONDON CENTRE FOR THEORY AND SIMULATION OF MATERIALS
The traditional black London cabs are often the fastest, though obviously not the cheapest, way of getting from A to B in central London. The fares are strictly regulated, and a tip is not expected. There is a minimum charge of £2.20, and you can expect to pay between £5 and £10 for a short trip of a few miles. You can usually pay by credit or debit card, but there will be an additional charge for this.
There are also private hire companies, which may work out cheaper than black cabs, but these have to be booked in advance. Your hotel, or your TYC host should be able to advise you.
Please note that the registered black London cabs are the only kind operating legally that you can stop in the street. Any unregistered cab that offers its services is operating illegally, and should be avoided.
Please check the Maps link on the left hand side of the page for full details of how to get to the participating TYC Colleges.
